Memory Verse:
John 14:1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
Memory Verse:
John 14:1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
The Big Questions:
What made Mary recognize Jesus? When he said her name, she recognized his voice; he spoke to her.
How do you think she felt when she realized she was talking to Jesus? Really excited; very happy.
Why is it so important to us today that he rose from the dead? It means he told the truth about himself; it proves he has power over death.
How can the fact that Jesus has power over death help you in your life? It gives me hope for eternity; it helps me trust Jesus.
Parent At Home Activity:
Share the love…We don’t need to necessarily be risking our lives in foreign countries to spread the good news of Christ. This week, make an effort to show kindness and love, whether through a smile, note, or just being present. Listen to people and make eye contact. How will you carry on God’s love this week?
Memory Verse:
John 14:1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
Have a conversation with your children about the Easter story this week, explain why the Easter story is important to you and your family! Share with us on the Parents of FV Kids facebook page your favorite Easter tradition!
The Big Questions:
Why did Jesus enter Jerusalem the way he did? (His triumphant entry was a fulfillment of prophecy)
How did Jesus enter Jerusalem? (Humbly, riding on a donkey.)
What did the people do when they saw Jesus coming down the road? (They sang his praises and waved palm branches.)
Challenge: Ask a friend to come to church with you or ask them to watch FV Kids Online for Easter Sunday!
Parent At Home Activity:
Create a Special Palm Sunday Snack: Crunchy Path
You’ll need:
graham crackers,
green-colored vanilla icing,
round chocolate candies,
teddy bear crackers,
plastic knives
Encourage your kids to wash their hands before they prepare their snacks, and make sure the snack area is clean. Have them each use a graham cracker to make a section of the road that Jesus and the donkey traveled. Then have them spread icing on graham crackers, then place the graham crackers in a row on the table, like bricks on the road. Have children make a crowd by lining both sides of the road with teddy-bear crackers. Then have them drop the round chocolate candies along the path as the donkey’s footsteps.
Invite your child to say a prayer thanking Jesus for being our king. Then enjoy your special eat goodies you have make together!
Memory Verse:
John 14:1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
The Big Questions:
What happened right before Jesus and the disciples went to the Garden of Gethsemane? the Last Supper
Which disciples did Jesus take with him? Peter, James and John
Why did Jesus take his disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane? to pray
What did the disciples do while Jesus was praying? they were sleeping
Which disciple brought the Jewish leaders and soldiers to arrest Jesus? Judas
As Jesus was praying that night, he told his Father that even though he knew what he was getting ready to go through would be painful, he would do it if it was his will. Are you willing to do what God asks of you? Can you say, "Not my will but yours be done God"?
Parent At Home Activity: Garden of Gethsemane Cupcakes
Make special Garden of Gethsemane Cupcakes with your children! Bake cupcakes together that they can decorate like a garden using dark frosting, chocolate rocks and green grass (colored coconut shavings), be creative and have fun! While you bake and decorate together encourage discussion with your children about what happened that night for Jesus is the Garden of Gethsemane, talk with them about the importance of prayer and ask them if there is anything they would like you to pray for them about (and then do it right then and there with them!).
Memory Verse:
John 14:1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
The Big Questions:
What did Jesus do for his disciples? Jesus showed us and the disciples an example of how we should treat others. By washing their feet he showed them that doing nice things for others and acting like a servant for Jesus, that is what He wants you to do.
Why was it unusual for a host to wash his guests’ feet? A host would never, ever wash the feet of his guests because he’d only make himself dirty in the process.
How does Paul say we should live? Read Philippians 2:5-8, we should live with the same attitude that Jesus had.
How does Paul describe the way Jesus lived? He was humble and showed us to be like a servant - helping others and not putting ourselves above those around us.
How can you be a servant to others?
Parent At Home Activity: Make Bath Salts Gifts
Make a special gift of Bath Salts to give to a friend or family member this week. As you prepare your gift with your child talk about how Jesus was an example to us to serve others and the importance of loving others the way that Jesus did.
Jesus answered, "A person who has had a bath needs to wash only his feet. The rest of his body is clean. And you are clean. But not all of you are." John 13:10
Supplies: pickling salt or course salt, epsom salt, food coloring, essential oil, baby food jars, bowls to mix, spoons, ribbon
Mix two kinds of salt in the bowl.
Add a couple of drops of food coloring to the salt. (Go easy. Stick to pastel colors.)
Add several drops of essential oil to the salt. and mix well.
Scoop into baby food jars.
Tie a pretty ribbon around the jar.
Add scripture label to the jar, so they are reminded of the verse when they use the bath salts.
Give the gift to someone.
Memory Verse:
John 14:1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
The Big Questions:
Why did Jesus not go right away when he heard about his friend? Jesus said that the sickness happened so it would show how great God is!
What did Martha think when Jesus said, “Your brother will rise again?” She thought Jesus meant when all people are resurrected at the last day. (Perhaps Jesus’ return)
Who did Jesus say He was? The Resurrection and the Life
How did the people react after Lazarus came from the tomb? Many people believed in Jesus, but some went to the Pharisees and told them what happened.
In what ways do you have hope in Jesus?
What can we do to experience more hope in our lives through Jesus?
Parent At Home Activity: New Life for Me
Supplies:
construction paper
pencils
crayons
scissors
Make something to help your children remember that if we answer Jesus’ question, “Do you believe this?” as Martha did, we can have new life, too! Martha said she believed that Jesus is the Son of God. If we believe that, too, we can have new life forever with Jesus!
When a butterfly comes out of its cocoon, we could say that it has new life because then it’s beautiful and free. That’s sort of how it’ll be when we get new life in heaven because we believe in Jesus. We’ll be happy and free forever. Let’s make butterflies to remind us that Jesus gives us hope.
Give your child a sheet of colored construction paper and a pencil, and set out the scissors. Help your kids to trace their two hands on the paper in such a way that the fingers are pointing away from one another, with their thumbs aligned. They can color the handprints to look like butterfly wings and then cut them out. Encourage your children to write on their butterflies the name of someone they will tell about new life in Jesus this week.
Use this butterfly to remember that just as a butterfly has new life when it emerges from its cocoon, so will we have new life when we go to heaven. You can make your own butterfly come to life by rolling up your paper with the blank side out. Now unroll it to let your butterfly come out of the cocoon!
In a way, when Lazarus stepped out of the tomb to new life, he was sort of like a butterfly coming out of its cocoon. However, there’s a lot more meaning to this passage. Eventually, Lazarus had to die again, even though the Bible doesn’t tell us about that. But death no doubt was still defeated by Jesus’ power, allowing us all to live forever with Jesus. It is in that power that Jesus gives us hope.
Memory Verse:
John 14:1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
The Big Questions:
How did Joshua and the Israelites show self control at the city of Jericho? They had to walk silently around the city walls, everyday for 7 days! Thats a lot of quiet time!
At the city of Ai did Joshua and the Israelites continue to have self control? Why or why not? No, the Israelites rushed in and ended up running away, they even had some of their soldiers die in that battle.
What is self-control? It is the ability to control ones emotions and actions.
What are some ways you lose your self-control? anger, laziness, manipulation, greediness, gluttony, etc.
Who gives us self control? Self-control comes to us from the Holy Spirit. We must ask him for help with our self-control.
Parent At Home Activity
Play a game together! Body Part Mix Up – Parents call out body parts for your children to touch. For example, call out “knees” and your children touch their knees. Create one rule to start. Each time you says “head” your children should touch their toes instead of their head. This requires your children to stop and think about their actions and to not just react. So if you call out “knees, head, elbow”, your children should touch their knees, TOES and elbow. Continue practicing and adding other rules to change body parts.
Explain that stopping to think before we act is a way we show self control, and then pray with your children asking God to help you each with your self control (use specific examples that they can identify with as you pray.)
Memory Verse:
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. There is no law against these things!”
The Big Questions:
What is gentleness? Gentleness is being loving, tender, calm, and humble in the things you say and do instead of being harsh or mean.
Who is most important to Jesus? EVERYONE is important—even sick people, even tax collectors, even kids just like you!
How did the disciples react to the kids trying to come to Jesus? They acted like guards, telling people to keep their kids away from Jesus.
How did Jesus react to what He saw happening? He actually got upset —but in a gentle way. Read Mark 10:14-15
Challenge: this week practice reacting with gentleness, instead of being harsh or mean. Share a creative picture of gentleness with us on the Parents of FV Kids Facebook page.
Parent At Home Activity: Gentle Heating
Heat salt, then heat chocolate and melt it to a heart shape. Discussion point: God’s Spirit softens our hearts with His love, helping us be kind and gentle. In this activity, kids will change solids to liquids to learn about the importance of allowing God to shape a gentle attitude in their heart.
You will need solid chocolate, a teaspoon of salt, aluminum foil, scissors, a desk lamp and a stir stick such as a wooden skewer or a drinking straw.
Directions
Cut two squares of tin foil approximately 10 cm wide. Fold the edges up on all sides, pinching the corners to make two small square dishes.
Put some chocolate into one foil dish; put the salt into the other dish.
As the adult supervising the experiment, you need to adjust the lamp until it is about 2 cm above the boxes. Turn the lamp on.
While you are watching and waiting, tell a story about gentleness or review the bible story from FV Kids Online this week. After five minutes, turn the lamp off and put it aside so no one will accidentally get burned.
Use the stir stick to see if there have been any changes in the substances. As you stir the chocolate, mould it into a heart shape. Try to do the same with the salt.
Tell your children that after it has cooled, they can taste your experiment. As the substances cool, read Zechariah 7:11-12, Hebrews 3:7-10 and Luke 6:45.
Prior to sampling the substances, explain to your children that when we refuse to allow God to soften our hearts and put His love in them, we are like the salt that was not changed by God’s Holy Spirit (represented by the lamp). But when we listen to God’s directions in the Bible and allow Him to put His love in our hearts, we are like the chocolate. God softens our hearts with His love, and we are kind and gentle with our words and actions.
Sample the substances, then pray, asking God to send His Holy Spirit to put His love in your hearts and to help you to speak with words that are sweet like the chocolate.
Memory Verse:
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. There is no law against these things!”
The Big Questions:
What is faithfulness? Remaining loyal or sticking together.
Who is the helper God sent for believers after Jesus went back to heaven? The Holy Spirit
When Peter was in jail how many guards were watching him? 4 groups of 4 guards each!
How many examples of faithfulness can you think of from the story? The believers were faithful to share the news about Jesus. Peter’s friends faithfully prayed to God when they heard Peter was in trouble. God was faithful to Peter by rescuing him from jail.
What are some ways that you can be faithful this week? We can do what we say we’re going to do, keep our promises, tell the truth, be great friends and sons and daughters and brothers and sisters, most importantly we can follow God’s example of faithfulness.
Parent At Home Activity:
Faithfulness Necklace
Supplies: String, Beads
Read Proverbs 3:3 together. “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.”
Invite your kids to make a necklace of faithfulness with you. With each bead that is strung you can talk about a time that God has been faithful to your family. This is also a great time to talk about what faithfulness is, examples of God’s faithfulness in the Bible, and why it’s so important to be faithful in our relationship with God and other people.
Memory Verse:
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
Galatians 5:22-23
The Big Questions:
What is goodness?
Goodness does not just mean being good, but doing good and pushing others to do good.
God promises believers goodness - does that mean nothing bad will ever happen?
No, but no matter how bad something may seem, God ultimately intends it for our good.
Challenge: Think of ways as a family that you can do good for people in our community this week, make a plan and follow through! Share your goodness with us this week on the Parents of FV Kids facebook page!
Parent At Home Activity:
A fun way to demonstrate the idea of goodness is by making two types of sugar cookies with your child. Make the dough using your favorite recipe or a store-bought mix. Stir a generous amount of salt into a small, separate portion of dough.
Bake the salty and sweet cookies, and put a sample of each on a plate. Ask your child if both types of cookies look good. Can he tell the difference just by looking at them? By tasting them?
Taste the cookies, explaining how the salty ones look good on the outside but don’t taste good because of what’s on the inside. In the same way, we may try to look good by doing all the right things, but if our hearts are not good, we won’t be pleasing to God. Since only God is truly good, He is the “ingredient” that creates true goodness in our hearts.
As you eat the good sugar cookies, ask your child if he can think of situations where he may act more like a salty cookie — appearing good on the outside, but not pleasing God with his heart. Remind your child that we can ask God to give us His goodness, so that we are pleasing to Him.
Memory Verse:
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
Galatians 5:22-23
The Big Questions:
How do you show kindness to others?
Is it difficult to be kind to people who are mean to you? Why?
Can you think of any other times that the Bible talks about showing love or being kind to others
As a family, come up with one thing you can do this week to show kindness to someone.
Do you think it’s easier to be kind to a stranger or someone you know? Why?
Parent at Home Activity:
Challenge your children to spread even more kindness by practicing random acts of kindness this week! Remind them that when they treat someone with kindness, that person is likelier to be kind to someone else, and so on.
Memory Verse:
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
Galatians 5:22-23
The Big Questions:
What was Simeon waiting for?
Was anyone else waiting too?
Why did the people want the Messiah to come?
Can you think of another older servant of God who had important things to say and do? (Hint: God gave him the job of leading millions of people out of Egypt
Challenge: This week when you need to wait, ask God for patience! His Spirit can help us choose to be patient when it’s difficult to wait.
Parent At Home Activity:
Play your kids favorite board game and post a picture to the Parents of FV Kids Facebook page! A great way to practice patience with kids is playing board games. Learning patience through games makes a lesson fun and relatable to real life.
Memory Verse:
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
Galatians 5:22-23
The Big Questions:
Who helps us have peace?
What are some things that you worry about? (Have an open conversation with your children about what worries them, and be honest about some of the things that worry you. It helps your children to know that they are not alone in their worry)
What can you do when the negative thoughts creep in?
Read the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in Daniel 3. They Had peace knowing that they obeyed God and that they would be with God in heaven if they died. Even in the situations we do not have control over, we still can have Peace knowing that God has control over the outcome
Challenge: This week when you are feeling worried or scared about something stop, pray and give thanks.
Parent At Home Activity:
Print and color Galatians 5:22-23 picture below. Display somewhere for the whole family to work together this week to memorize the verse!
Memory Verse:
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
Galatians 5:22-23
The Big Questions:
1. What do you think the difference is between happiness and Joy?
Psalm 16:11 tells us that Joy comes from a deep knowing that God loves you and he is in your corner! We can remain joyful no matter what is happening in the world around us when we know what He has done for us!
2. In Acts, Peter healed a crippled man, who wasn’t happy about that?
The religious leaders didn’t want Peter to be able to heal people because he was praying in Jesus name and not following their ‘rules’.
3. Peter was thrown in jail and then let out with what instruction?
To not preach about jesus anymore.
4. What did Peter pray for the night that he was released from jail?
Peter prayed for boldness!
5. Even in the face of danger, even when they were thrown into jail the apostles never gave up sharing the truth about Jesus. Not only did they share the truth about Jesus, but they also did it with joy! Do you know what kept the apostles going?
The Holy Spirit. The Spirit gave them the boldness to teach with joy, because no matter what went on around them, the Holy Spirit gave them joy on the inside.
6. This week choose joy no matter what’s going on! Even when things aren’t going the way you think they should try to choose Joy!
Parent At Home Activity: A Joyful Noise!
Supplies: Musical Instruments (Use instruments you have, make your own, or use pots, pans, & kitchen utensils), Worship Music
Instructions:
Turn on your favorite worship music.
Sing, dance, & play your instruments to create a joyful noise unto the Lord!
Share with us on the Parents of FV Kids Facebook page what is your kids favorite worship song!
Memory Verse:
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
The Big Questions:
Who was the most loving in this story?
Jesus is the most loving! He healed the man’s heart as well as his body.
How did the friends show they loved the paralyzed man?
Who did not show love in this story?
What do you think the man’s life was like after his friends took him to Jesus?
How do you think he felt about his friends after he was healed?
Share a time when someone did something loving to help you
Parent at Home Activity:
Even in this time of social distancing there are still ways we can help our community!
Use technology to check on family or neighbors
Play a game with a friend or relative online
Make and send notes or cards to healthcare workers
Make encouraging signs to post on windows or fences
Pray for others
Paint rocks to leave around your neighborhood with encouraging notes
Draw encouraging notes on your sidewalk with chalk
Talk with your kids to think of people you can love by helping them this week.
Memory Verse:
1 John 4:19 “We love each other because he loved us first.”
The Big Questions:
1. How did the wise men find Jesus?
They followed a star.
2. What did the wise men bring to Jesus?
They brought gifts to worship Him, gold, frankincense and myrrh.
3. How can we worship Jesus?
We don’t have any gold, frankincense or myrrh and we don’t need to bring expensive gifts to Jesus to be able to worship Him. We can come to Jesus just as we are, worshipping Him at any time and in any place. When we choose to follow Jesus, our worship isn’t only for Sunday mornings while we’re at church, we can worship Jesus anytime.
Parent at Home Activity:
Give your child a star shape to decorate. Children can use glue sticks and glitter to make sparkling stars or just markers and crayons to make it colorful. Use a hole punch and add a hole at the top of the star and thread through some ribbon so they can hang their star on their Christmas tree.
EXPLANATION: The wise men came in search of Jesus so they could worship Him. Matthew 2:2 (NIRV) “They asked, ‘Where is the child who has been born to be king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose. Now we have come to worship him.” They were seeking Jesus and the star was like a sign post in the sky.

Christmas Memory: Print and cut apart: Christmas Memory Cards (below). Mix up the Christmas memory cards and set them out face down in a 4 x 4 grid.
One at a time children can take turns to choose two cards to turn face up. If the pictures match, they can keep the pair, if they don’t match, they must flip them back over to be face down. Everyone can try to remember the position of the different pictures, and try to get a match. As children match the pictures talk about what part the person/item, represented by the image, plays in the Christmas story.
Angels - The angels announced to Mary and Joseph that they would soon have a baby and call Him Jesus. The angels also appeared to the shepherds and told them that Jesus had been born.
Donkey - Mary rode a donkey all the way to Bethlehem, the place where Jesus was born.
Wise Men - The wise men followed a star to find Jesus so they could worship Him.
Star - Lots of people put stars on top of their Christmas tree, it’s a reminder of the star that the wise men followed to find Jesus.

The Big Questions:
Do you think the other 9 lepers were thankful for Jesus’ healing? If so, why do you think they did not return to thank Him?
How hard do you think it was for the one man to leave the others and be different (return to Jesus)?
How do you think the others reacted to his actions?
Who do you identify with most in this story: the one man who returned or the nine who did not? Explain.
What excuses do people usually use for not being more thankful or saying ‘thank you’ more often?
What is one thing that God has recently done in your life that you could thank Him for today?
Parent At Home Activity:
Help your children to make a “Thankful” wreath. Using multi colored paper trace and cut out your child handprints, glue the arranged handprints around the outside of a paper plate and write things that your child is thankful for on each one. In the center of the plate include your child’s name and Thanksgiving 2020 to have a special craft you can look back on in the coming years!
Memory Verse:
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.” Proverbs 31:8-9
