The Big Questions:
How did Joshua and the Israelites show self control at the city of Jericho? They had to walk silently around the city walls, everyday for 7 days! Thats a lot of quiet time!
At the city of Ai did Joshua and the Israelites continue to have self control? Why or why not? No, the Israelites rushed in and ended up running away, they even had some of their soldiers die in that battle.
What is self-control? It is the ability to control ones emotions and actions.
What are some ways you lose your self-control? anger, laziness, manipulation, greediness, gluttony, etc.
Who gives us self control? Self-control comes to us from the Holy Spirit. We must ask him for help with our self-control.
Parent At Home Activity
Play a game together! Body Part Mix Up – Parents call out body parts for your children to touch. For example, call out “knees” and your children touch their knees. Create one rule to start. Each time you says “head” your children should touch their toes instead of their head. This requires your children to stop and think about their actions and to not just react. So if you call out “knees, head, elbow”, your children should touch their knees, TOES and elbow. Continue practicing and adding other rules to change body parts.
Explain that stopping to think before we act is a way we show self control, and then pray with your children asking God to help you each with your self control (use specific examples that they can identify with as you pray.)
Memory Verse:
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. There is no law against these things!”
