Outline // What Lies Ahead #2: Trust
John 13:36 - John 14:14
---------
The Jesus Method: (moving people through discipleship: from "come and see" to "come and die")
1. Come and see.. (awe)
2. You gotta obey me to show me you love me… (obedience)
3. You gotta love each other, to show that you love me… (love)
4. You gotta love me more than your father & mother… (single-minded devotion)
5. You gotta eat my flesh and drink my blood… (perseverance)
6. You gotta take up your cross… (sacrifice)
As you move through these, your trust goes up!
----------
First thing we need to say: "come and see"
Jesus built trust with his disciples before He would challenge them to go deeper.
Truth is always better received when it’s preceded by Trust. You have to build trust, or they're less likely to listen. Prove that you love them first. Then they'll start to trust you.
The Bible says “DO NOT BE AFRAID.” It’s a command. Over and over. Joshua 1:9, Isaiah 41:10, Deut 31:6, Philippians 4:6-7…
Was Jesus safe on that cross?
If people can be convinced that safety is the thing to worship, they’ll pick IT over God every time. Because faith is risky. Faith is dangerous. Faith isn’t “safe”.
But when we do choose it…when we make the LORD our shelter, our safe place, our hiding place…our refuge…
Even the bad stuff that happens is "Father-filtered".
