Outline // What Lies Ahead #4: Fruit

John 15:1-17
HE is the grapevine, we are the branches.

Two reasons God prunes:
  1. no fruit
  2. He wants MORE fruit

In the Bible, the word fruit is used in two different ways (other than literal fruit of course):
  1. A metaphor for the results of a person’s actions and spiritual life
  2. A symbol of the “fruit of the Spirit” like love, joy, and peace

1 John 2:15–17
15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

Matthew 6:23 says…
And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!

Two things Jesus gets angry about:
  1. Faithlessness
  2. Fruitlessness
