Outline //. Come Follow Me #7: The Cage of Fear
Most of us are educated way beyond the level of our obedience.
We are the most resourced church in the most resourced country the world has ever known. You know what is most lacking? Good old-fashioned guts!
1 Samuel 14:1-15 - Jonathan’s Daring Plan
Jonathan did not let his fears dictate his decisions! Jonathan played offense! With his life!
He exposed himself to the enemy in broad daylight. They knew he was coming.
He conceded the high ground…he had to CLIMB up! They just got to sit back and watch him come.
“Perhaps the Lord will help us…for nothing can hinder the Lord..”
As “guiding principles” go…that’s a GOOD ONE.
Matthew 11:12
God’s way is the best way. (but it’s often the hardest way)
When the Bible says, “Love the Lord your God with all your strength”...did you think it was joking?
1 Samuel 14:2: “Saul [THE KING!!] was staying on the outskirts of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree in Migron.”
Saul was a spiritual spectator.
This isn’t spiritual codependency. Church should equip you and challenge you to fulfill the great commission, and go into all the world and PREACH the good news!!!
Church is not the END, it’s a means to an end.
1 Samuel 13:22 tells us that no one in Israel had a sword or spear EXCEPT Saul & Jonathan.
No one had a weapon for battle, except the king and his son! So if I’m not Jonathan…I’m thinking…well, my dad’s not gonna do it…and if he’s not, who is?! I’ve got to do something.
I’m the only other one who CAN.
We can’t just play not to lose. We’ve got to play to win! That sometimes takes some risk.
Stop living defensively, and start living dangerously for the cause of Christ!
