Hebrews 10:23-25, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”
Hold to hope
V. 23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
No one naturally is hopeful. But some people have learned skills to work at it.
Some of the most hopeful have had to work hard on it. (they try hard)
People who project hope, work hard projecting hope. It doesnt just come.
In relationships, hope is especially needed 1) to believe, 2)to ask for more, 3)to try again after a loss
But hold tightly to hope! Here issuggestions for how to hold onto hope…
Write down your hope. Writing down your hope helps solidify it in your heart and you need it to be sound so it can hold up against the attacks that will come – sometimes from people that mean well.
Speak your hope. Read aloud what you write down. Speaking the hope helps it settle into your mind to the point it becomes your default position. Never assume people know what you are hopeful about!
Find other hopeful people to hang around. Not only will their hope reinforce your hope, but you will become more hopeful for having an influx of hopeful attitudes around you.
Repeat hope verbally. When you feel the darkness getting heavier, begin at the beginning of the process to hold tight to hope until hope settles in once again.
Motivate somebody
V. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
In motivating others, your own motivation happens!!
How to motivate:
Encourage them in the little things
Appreciate them personally
Make sure that you give far more positive encouragement than negative reinforcement
Talk up how to do it, opportunities to do it, appreciation to those who do it.
Build heroes pf people who have done it!
How to de-motivate:
Be controlling; take responsibility for their lives, tell them what to do and how to do it.
Be manipulative: try to make them do things for you, without saying it.
Critisize: find things they do wrong and point them out.
Encourage your people
25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
This is the best way to motivate someone!
Constantly build the skills of encouragement
If you ever like anything, say it!
Spend time with them.
Smile at them
If you feel ANYTHING positive, say it
(make yourself a pledge; “I will never feel positive without appreciating it outloud)
Notice the little things
