ReWind 2024: Beware of the Yeast

Matthew 16:5-12

  1. Arguing among each other usually means someone (or everyone) is focused on the wrong thing.

  2. Beware of deceptive teaching (like that of the Pharisees & Sadducees) that puffs you up, without any REAL sustenance.

Sadduccees = deism, agnosticism. God does not intervene in people’s lives. They also believed that the soul was not immortal, no afterlife, no angels or demons, heaven or hell, and definitely no resurrection. They did believe in the Torah, law of Moses, and temple worship & sacrifices.
Pharisees = religion, rank, reward and punishment, the law. They believed in a coming messiah would who set up his kingdom and destroy the Roman empire. They focused on all the wrong things.  LOOKING good, but no heart change.  “Leafing” but producing no fruit.  Spiritually abusing people.

As I look back over the year, I am SO proud of those who have resisted both of these temptations.  There were MANY temptations along the way this year, to fall into that trap.  Some did, but I see WAY MORE OF YOU who didn’t. 

Way more of you who maintained a healthy culture, when there was heavy temptation not to.  
Way more of you who saw through deceptive religion trying to creep in, because you KNOW the Word…
WAY more of you who kept the heart of Jesus as the most important thing.  I’m so proud of you for that!

And I want to make sure that we hold onto it in 2025.
