Fight for your Friends!
December 13-19, 2018
17 As iron sharpens iron,
so a friend sharpens a friend.
20 Walk with the wise and become wise;
associate with fools and get in trouble.
1 Chronicles 11:9-19
2 Samuel 23:8-17
It has been said far to often that you are the average of your five closest friends. So if you hang out with three jerks you fight all day long and two liars who like to stir up trouble what kind of person are you likely to become. With that thought what type of friend are you? Are you the kind friend that brings people up or down?
King David was a great man, (1 Chronicles 11:9), and his greatness was bolstered by the men he chose to surround himself with. I want as you go throughout your week to think to yourself, am I being a person who builds up or tears down?
2 Samuel 23:9-10
Why do you think Eleazar stood while the rest of the army fled?
Did Eleazar stand alone?
What do you notice happened after they won the battle?
2 Samuel 23:13-14
What did Shammah do when the entire army ran away?
What did God do when he stood in response to Shammah’s actions?
As you read about the men David surrounded him with, you notice that each of them was willing to stand alone. The type of person that makes a great friend is the kind of person who is capable of standing alone. Not running from others but standing in defence of something that matters to them. Watch the video below and ask yourself are you a brave friend, or a cowardly companion.
Clean Up Your Crap!
December 5-12 2018
12 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
I have never been a very clean person. I remember in high school at the end of every wrestling season the team had a banquet where they would roast every varsity wrestler. My sophomore year they gave me a laundry basket and soap because I was such a notorious slob. I think we have all hear the saying that cleanliness is close to Godliness and it is silly and fun but it is also not a saying found in the bible. So what does God's word have to say about being clean.
What the heck is this passage talking about!?
Why is the treatment of poop important to God?
Do you think it matters to God if our lives our clean or not?
According to vs. 15 will God always hear our prayers?
What should the people of Israel do to be heard by God?
What does it mean to purge something?
Is it a pleasant experience?
Why does the author need someone else to clean him?
What is it that you know God is telling you to do and you are not doing?
DO IT NOW!!
Is there an area of your life right now that is in disorder? Is your bedroom a mess, is your backpack full of junk, or is your locker destroyed; if so why do you think it is so out of order. Is it possible that when on area of our life is a mess then another area is as well? God wants our lives to be clean but also our lives to be holy! Today's extra credit talks about the importance of holiness.
